Announcements

The 2023 Yau Tsinghua Mathcamp will take place from July 11 to August 18, 2023 at 清華三亚国际数学论坛 (TSIMF) (Tsinghua Sanya International Mathematics Forum), a beautiful campus on the southern beach of Sanya, in the tropical island of Hainan.

If you are a high school student who loves math, and are very passionate about problem solving, you are strongly encouraged to apply to join Mathcamp. Applications will be accepted online, and will be considered on a competitive basis. We will be accepting applications from March 1, 2023 to April 15, 2023. This year, we hope to admit 120-150 of the very best students from across the country, and some foreign countries.

APPLY

Admission to Mathcamp is free. However, students will cover their own costs of housing and meals at 三亚国际数学论坛 (TSIMF), which is 12,000RMB per person (roughly 300RMB per day per person). There are limited funds available for participant support (up to 8,000RMB per person) – students who can document financial hardship get priority. Students may request for financial support after they are admitted to Mathcamp and we will also ask students to submit all the relevent documents.

Mathcamp classes shall start on Wednesday, July 12. Students can start by building and creating some basic but solid background knowledge on a range of subjects. They include Linear Algebra, Analysis and Topology, Number Theory, Algebraic Combinatorics, and Physics. Students will also work with their coaches and teachers on a daily basis to learn the art of creative problem solving. In a latter part of the camp, they will hone in on specific math problems in a research project of their choice, and then apply skills they have acquired to try to solve those problems. (Some of them are even open!) There will be a Mathcamp Symposium on the last days of camp that would give students an opportunity to share their research findings with their fellow campers and their teachers.

The highest achieving students at Mathcamp will receive our recommendation to enter the Yau Research Program (YRP). 2023 is the inaugural year of this new research program for high school students. Each student, possibly as a member of a small team, in this program would work on a year-long research project under the supervision of a research professor from a prestigious university. The professor would serve as their mentor throughout the year. The YRP would serve as an extension of a student's Mathcamp experience, giving them an opportunity to develop advanced knowledge, and deep and creative problem solving skills, over the period of about a year, all under the guidance of a seasoned research scientist. Graduates of this program will be recommended to the very top universities around the world for college admission.
